The National Gallery (National Gallery) was established in 1824 andcompleted in 1838 is a museum located in London and occupying thesouth of Trafalgar Square. She has an artistic heritage dating from 1250 to 1900, more recent works are housed at the Tate Modern. The collection of 2,300 paintings dating from the Middle Ages to the late nineteenth century, British-owned land and access to the main collectionis free. Only temporary exhibitions are subject to an entry price. TheGallery is a non-departmental public body.
The beginnings of the National Gallery were modest, unlike the Louvre in Paris or the Prado in Madrid, because the collection was not founded bythe nationalization of works of art belonging to the royal family or nobles.The rise of the Gallery began with the purchase of 36 paintings to the banker John Julius Angerstein in 1824. The Gallery was then conceived by its original directors, particularly Sir Charles Lock Eastlake, and its collections were enriched by donees private two-thirds of the works.
The National Gallery preserves some of the finest paintings in the world,and if we can admire some national works (William Turner, John Constable, Thomas Gainsborough), mainly consists of foreign picturesthat cover the entire history art of the Middle Ages to the late nineteenthcentury,
