We will axe our essay around two keys stones. Firstly we will see the living conditions of immigrants in the United States. Then we will lay stress on the preconceived ideas of immigration among the Americans.
On the first cartoon we can see two characters, one of them is an illegal alien who seems rather disillusioned, his smile betrays him. He describes his everyday life with sadness. He uses strongly connoted words such as “sweltering” and “strange” which traduce the difficulty of his crossing, which was a real hardship. He seems homesick as he talks a lot of his family and his children, he supports such living conditions only for the well being of his family: “ they can have a better live than he does”. He is disenchanted as he knows nothings will change.
On the second cartoon, the immigrant is in the background. That shows the distinction between then gardener and the Americans and the lack of consideration for the latter. Moreover, he turns is back on us, which reinforce the idea of his lower condition. Besides, he can see he is really concentrated on his tasks, he is hard -working.
Those cartoon reflected the stark reality of illegal aliens’ situation, in fact the crossing has became harder as they militarized the border with more border patrol. Many immigrants trying to reach the United States have drowned in canals, have died of dehydration or of heat stress in the desert, some have even been shot by ranchers.
