VIN VERIFICATION WHEN KANSAS RESIDENT TEMPORARY LOCATED IN ANOTHER STATE
Kansas law (KSA 8-116a) requires before an application for a Kansas title and/or registration can be accepted for a vehicle surrendering a title issued by another jurisdiction (or purchased on a bill of sale, if applicable) as proof of ownership, the vehicleand the non-Kansas title or ownership document must be inspected to ensure that vehicle identification number shown on the non-Kansas title is genuine and agrees with the identification number on the vehicle and a Motor Vehicle Examination Certificate (MVE-1 Form) must be completed by the Kansas Highway Patrol or their designee. When a Kansas resident/business is making application for Kansastitle and/or registration and has selected reason 1, 2 or 3 below, this form may be used in lieu of the MVE-1 form. If reason 4 is selected, this TR-65 form will only be accepted to submit the application for title and/or registration. Upon returning the vehicle to Kansas an MVE-1 form must be obtained from the Kansas Highway Patrol or their designee. When reason 4 is selected, renewing theregistration for the vehicle with a pending title application awaiting the MVE-1 form must be pre-approved by the division and can only be approved one time. The Titles & Registrations Bureau must receive the MVE-1 form before the certificate of title will be issued.
