Desperate Housewives is an American television comedy-drama series created by Marc Cherry, The setting of the show is the street of Wisteria Lane in the fictional American town of Fairview in the Eagle State. It follows the lives of a group of women, seen through the eyes of their dead neighbor. They work through domestic struggles and family life, while facing the secrets, crimes and mysteries hidden behind the doors of their beautiful and perfect suburban neighborhood. The show is inspired, to an extent, by the 1999 film American Beauty. The show features an ensemble cast, headed by Teri Hatcher as Susan Mayer, Felicity Huffman as Lynette Scavo, Marcia Cross as Bree Van de Kamp and Eva Longoria Parker as Gabrielle Solis. Brenda Strong narrates the show as the deceased Mary Alice Young, appearing sporadically in flashbacks or dreams. The thirteen starring actors for season one included four leading actresses, who fully participated of the success of the series. Susan Mayer is a divorced single parent and her daughter Julie (playedby Andrea Bowen). Her husband, Karl, has left a young woman several years ago. She is looking for a new love, and his new neighbor, Mike, seems to be the ideal man. She will do everything to attract her attention.
Bree Van de Kamp seems to be the perfect mother and ideal wife but she is far from what it seems and is on the verge of nervous breakdown. She always wants to control everything, including her two children and her husband, Rex, which will lead to conflict in the conjugal couple. She is very careful about his image and shows only very little feelings, which looks very cool, but when she finds herself alone, her emotions arise.
