This chapter stays with the Marquis and shows him traveling through a desolate landscape from Paris to his estate in the country. There is not a lot of action in the novel, but what action there is foreshadows future plot development. The setting sun casts a reddish tinge over the Marquis, which foreshadows his impending murder. The Marquis hears from a road mender that there was a man riding under the Marquis’s carriage, but the man cannot be found. The Marquis tells Gabelle to be on the lookout for a stranger. The Marquis is also stopped by a woman near a graveyard, begging him for a marker for her dead husband’s grave. Once the Marquis arrives at his estate, he asks for a man named Charles.Inscrivez-vous pour trouver des essais sur Katarina Mazetti >
