Friedrich Averdieck (1774-1839), war ein wohlhabender Kaufmann, der mit englischen Waren handelte. Insgesamt hatte das Ehepaar Averdieck zwölf Kinder, wobei Elise die zweitälteste war (Vgl. Quelle 2, S.211). Elise verbrachte fast ihre gesamte Kindheit, genauer gesagt ihr gesamtes Leben, in Hamburg. Ihre Familie siedelte in den Jahren 1813 und 1814 vorübergehend nach Berlin um, weil französische Truppen Hamburg besetzten (Vgl. Quelle 3, S.204).
